Gail A. Hixon, (303) 914-5182 The VA National Cemetery Service would
like to obtain an electronic alphanumeric display board for exterior
use. This display board will provide cemetery funeral service
information throughout the day to visitors arriving via automobile.
Time between display updates will likely be every 10 minutes to an
hour. The sign will will be installed at the side of the entry road to
the site from 5 to 15 feet from the back of curb. The sign will face
the late day sun. It will not typically be in operation during over
night. The needs and requirements for this display follow: PHYSICAL
CHARACTERISTICS -- 8 display lines; 20-25 number of characters in each
line; letter size 2" to 3"' high contrast letter/background
combination permitting precise readability in direct sunlight; sign
exterior shall be resistant to weather and sunlight degradation;
display fact must not promote reflection or glare; entire display must
be vandal resistant; display and components must not be affected by
weather extremes; sign finish shall not require paint maintenance; sign
will be installed with the bottom of the sign approx. 2' AGL; sign
shall be mounted between two posts or pedestal; sign must be
constructed so maintenance and repairs can be conducted on site;
exterior lighting is not planned; approx 1 foot of inactive display
space shall be provided on the sign body above the active display
elements for permanent information such as facility name and display
column headings. OPERATION REQUIREMENTS must be able to operate
continuously; message must be able to be changed/controlled instantly
via remote computer utilizing Window 95 operating system; software that
drives the display shall not prevent concurrent applications from
running on the computer; signal for the display drivers will be sent
from a standard PC serial port; distance from the computer to the sign
is approximately 400 feet; any signal amplification, drivers or
controllers to provide the necessary signal strength and quality to the
sign shall be provided by the sign supplier; power available for the
sign will be standard 120V single phase ~10 amp with no conditioning;
any environmental conditioning or power modifications required for the
sign components must be housed within the sign body; access shall be
provided in the sign exterior for any programmed maintenance of
interior components; detailed installation requirements and maintenance
information must be provided. Firms believing that they can provide the
required sign are invited to submit an affirmative response to this
notice. Firms should state their business size, include literature,
brochures, and capabilities summaries pertaining to this need.
