Washington, D.C. 20050-6563 D -- LAN SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION SERVICES SOL DP2/0053Z/97 DUE 031997
POC Contract Specialist, Michael T. Patrom, (202)231-2159 The Virginia
Contracting Activity, on behalf of the Defense Intelligence Agency
(DIA), has an immediate and urgent need for 13 Local Area Network (LAN)
System Administrators (LSA) to support a heterogeneous environment
consisting of 150+ Sun O/S 4.1.3 UNIX and Windows NT 3.51 file servers
and associated clients; future installations of Solaris 2.5 UNIX and
Windows NT 4.0 local area networks; Novell/DOS local area network
support on the 60+ Novell servers and where possible, Silicon Graphics
(SGI) and Apple/Macintosh servers and clients. Individuals considered
may have expertise in either UNIX or NT environments exclusively or be
extremely knowledgeable in both areas. Services are needed at three
sites in the Washington, DC area beginning immediately. The contractor
will provide at least 5 LSAs knowledgeable in the UNIX OSs, to work
rotating, 24x7 shifts in the Pentagon. All of the LSAs should be
prepared to provide support during nonstandard hours based on mission
requirements. Work shall be performed at any DIA location. Contractor
personnel must be U.S. citizens and must be cleared at the TOP
SECRET/SCI level based on a special background investigation (SBI)
completed within the last three years. Extensive knowledge and
experience of Sun O/S4.1.3 and Solaris 2.5.1 UNIX, Network Information
Services Plus (NIS+) Windows NT 4.0, MS DOS and Novell operating
systems as it relates to administering a LAN is required. Knowledge of
Silicon Graphics (IRIX) and Apple/Macintosh operating systems is
required by at least two contractor LSAs . Knowledge/experience must be
sufficiently detailed to enable conduct of most routine LAN
administration tasks such as adding and deleting users, installing
software, installing network printers, conducting backups/restores,
performing shutdowns, maintaining file structures, and troubleshooting
system/user problems without requiring on-site training.
Knowledge/experience is also required to be able to resolve rudimentary
printer malfunctions, such as adding font cartridges, changing toner
cartridges, nstalling network cards, configuring for network, etc.:
insuring the operation of auxiliary power systems, validating
connectivity, etc. Knowledge of commercial and government off-the-shelf
(COTS) software applications applicable to customer organization(s) is
desirable in order to identify and resolve user problems. Each
contractor LSA will be required to take and pass DIA- administered UNIX
and Novell aptitude tests prior to granting of root access to servers
and clients. Testing of proposed personnel will be accomplished prior
to any contract award. When a Windows NT test is prepared and
finalized, contractor LSAs will be required to take and pass the test
prior to granting of NT system access. This is an immediate
requirement. Only those companies that can meet this "immediate"
requirement and are interested should submit a capabilities statement
which clearly demonstrates past performance and experience in the area
of LAN System Administration in the operating environments described
above. The following information is required on each of the proposed
LSAs: Specific Experience (how much, where gained, how long, etc.),
Education, Date of last SCI background investigation and date personnel
can be available. Based on the information received in response to this
RFI by 19 March 1997, the Government will make a determination on the
specific acquisition approach. Point of contact for this requirement is
the Virginia Contracting Activity, Attn: Mr. Mike Patrom, Bldg 6000,
Bolling AFB, Washington, DC 20340. Mr. Patrom can be reached
