SCARNICI (508) 233-4585 (Site Code DAAK60) The US Army Soldier Systems Command, Natick, MA, intends to negotiated and award a contract to Foster Miller of Waltham, MA, on a sole source basis under the authority of FAR 6.302-1, which states only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements. Foster Miller will be required to build and demonstrate a working prototype of a lightweight and compact, 24 volts, vapor compression microclimate cooling unit based on Foster Miller's rolling piston compressor, developed for NRDEC. The objective is to demonstrate a 30 percent reduction in weight over the present 10 pounds STEPO cooling unit, and will operate on, and house three BA-5590/U military batteries. Up to 40 percent reduction in cooling capacity over the present 1100 watt-hours STEPO cooling unit, is acceptable. Foster Miller is able to do this by using their newly developed rolling piston compressor and their experience gained in the development of the STEPO cooling system. NO SOLICITATION DOCUMENT EXISTS.
