Architect/Engineer services for an expansion of the Los Angeles, CA --
Bulk Mail Center, located at 5555 Bandini Boulevard. The project
consists of investigation, design, drawings, specifications, and
proposal documents for an expansion of approximately 220,000 gross
square feet at an estimated cost of $17 million to $22 million dollars
for the building expansion and $18 to $25 million for the Materal
Handling Systems. The basic contract will be for completion of Concept
(30%) Design with an option to complete Final (100%) drawings and
specifications. Additionally, the contract may contain options for
construction administrative services. Architectural/Engineering firms
must demonstrate recent comparable experience developing construction
documents for the expansion of projects as complex as light industrial
processing facilities and the operational systems where the building
is occupied and fully operational. The qualifications of firms for this
project are as follows: 1) Experience in projects of compatible size
and scope in the Los Angeles area; 2) Architectural firm shall have a
minimum of seven (7) licensed architects in the office where the work
is performed; 3) Consulting engineering firm(s) shall have at least two
(2) licensed engineers in each of the following disciplines:
structural, mechanical, plumbing, civil, and electrical in the office
where work is performed;4) Prime and structural, mechanical, civil, and
electrical engineers shall have worked together on at least three (3)
projects of similar size and scope, and both prime and consultants have
experience and use Autocadd Version 13 or later; 5) Mechanization
consultants shall have a minimum of five (5) years experience with
mechanization design, such as large parcel sorting system, conveyor
system. Comparable projects will be considered as expansion of occupied
facilities requiring multiple phased construction and involving the
installation of material handling systems with minimal interference
with the building operations. The minimum project size is 150,000 gross
square feet or greater and costing more than $20 million. Primary
consideration will be given to comparable project experience. Firms
that have the qualifications to perform the services described above
are invited to submit a completed SF255, Architect/Engineer and Related
Services Questionnaire for Specific Project, and a completed SF254,
Architect/Engineer and Related Services questionnaire, for each of its
proposed consultants to the office shown above, received no later than
April 11, 1997. The selection will be conducted by using both the
submitted SF255s and SF254s. Interested firms with more than one office
must indicate on their SF255 the staffing composition of the office in
which the work will be performed. Consideration will be given to
firms, including consultants, responding to the advertisement in
accordance with the following order of preference: (1) 100 mile radius
of the Los Angeles, CA area, (2) State of California, and (3) outside
the State of California; Architectural and engineering firms will be
considered as local only if their sole office is in the local
geographical area or they have a local branch office and all the
architectural design, coordination, and management of the project will
be performed in that office. The mechanization consultant is excluded
from the geographical order of preferences. The contract contains a
requirement for firms to provide evidence of current errors and
omissions insurance of $500,000 per claim. It is prohibited to pay any
fee, commission, percentage or brokerage fee to any person or firm
contingent upon or resulting from award of a contract for this project.
No other general notification of this project will be made. Submissions
will not be retained or returned. This is not a request for proposals.
