COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MARCH 20,1997 PSA#1806U.S. Postal Service, Automation Purchasing, 8403 Lee Highway,
Merrifield, VA 22082-8150 39 -- BAR CODE PRINTERS DUE 032497 POC Eva Weems, FAX (703) 280-8412.
The Postal Service is seeking sources who may be able to participate
in a competitive procurement of between 500 and 600 Bar Code Printers
for the Package Bar-Code System (PBCS) used in our Bulk Mail Centers
(BMCs). We are seeking existing equipment that could replace the SATO
4524C printer that is currently being used in the PBCS. Only those
firms who can provide existing industrial quality equipment with slight
modifications capable of the following should respond: Print a 6-digit
1-2 of 5 bar-code onto a 1-1/2 inch wide direct thermo linerless
label, then cut and transfer a 1-1/4 inch long label, at the speed of
6 inches per second, onto a label blow plate which blows onto the
package. The "X" dimension shall be .020 inches wide and the wide to
narrow ratio shall be 2-1. This printer must accommodate the same label
blow plate currently being used (or equivalent) and shall be plug
compatible, electronically and mechanically, with the existing system.
Any individual spare parts exceeding $200.00 must be identified.
Interested firms should provide information (not to exceed twenty (20)
pages), which demonstrates that they can provide equipment with the
capabilities described above. This information should be submitted to
the address above no later than March 24, 1997. (0077) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0209 19970320\39-0002.SOL)
