ability to furnish the services described herein are requested to give
written notification (including telephone number for a point of
contact) to the procuring office above within forty-five calendar days
from the date of the synopsis. Salient characteristics: Provide all
labor, materials, equipment, parts (except scanner tips) travel costs
and facilities (if off-site repair) to perform on-site repairs on four
(4) Ampex DCRSi cassette tape recorders and tape recorder parts, Model
Nos. 107 and 04 (classic). Vendor shall choose to repair or replace
DCRSi components based upon which is most advantageous to the
Government. The Contractor shall provide all travel and per diem
expenses for the duration of the on-site visit. If drive must be taken
off-site for repair vendor shall: provide a loaner drive to EDC while
the failed drive is off-site, pay for transportation of the drive to
and from EDC and provide the labor to u Concerns having the ability to

provide the labor to uninstall and install/reinstall the failed, loaner
and repaired drives. Vendor shall thoroughly test the tape drive after
repair to ensure that it meets all published manufacturer's
specifications. Turnaround time for the repair/replacement of DCRSi
drives is estimated to be thirty (30) days. Response to requests for
on-site maintenance shall be less than one (1) week. Vendor shall
acknowledge a request for services within four (4) working hours.
Acknowledgment need to nothing more than a phone conversation between
USGS engineers and the vendor's representative, in which the vendor's
representative states his/her understanding of the symptoms of the
failure and an estimate as to when vendor's repair personnel shall
arrive on site. Upon completion of repairs, but prior to leaving USGS
facility, vendor shall demonstrate to USGS personnel that the DCRSi
drive has been fully repaired. Prior to leaving the premises after a
repair, vendor shall allow USGS personnel to test the unit for
completeness of repair. Vendor personnel shall possess the technical
training and knowledge and have access to the diagnostic and test
equipment required to perform the services outlined above. Based on the
information available at this time, and in accordance with 41 U.S.C.
253(c)(1), implemented by FAR 6.302-1, the Government considers the
item specified as a sole source from Ampex Data Systems, Morrison,
Colorado, and proposes to negotiate a contract with that firm on that
basis. However, should additional sources be identified, they will be
considered. Firms who feel that they can furnish the required item or
its functional equivalent (based upon the criteria specified herein)
are invited to submit in writing an affirmative response to this
announcement. An affirmative response would include literature,
brochures and such other materials which correspond to the required
items stated herein. This information will be evaluated and used to
determine if competitive opportunities exist. Since no solicitation
document exists, requests for such documents without accompanying
information will be considered non-responsive to this request without
further consideration. This notice may represent the Government's only
