Taylor, 202-395-7664 The Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) intends to contract on a sole source basis with the National Academy of Sciences (the Academy) for a comprehensive assessment of the state of scientific knowledge on marijuana, including its: pharmacokinetics, potential therapeutic use for medical conditions (especially as compared with FDA-approved therapies); potential efficacy and adverse effects; possible acute and chronic effects on health and behavior, and addictive properties. The term of the contract will be for eighteen months. Due to the breadth and depth of its scientific and technical expertise, the Academy was selected as the most logical source of outside scientifically-respected, unbiased, and independent advise to ONDCP.
