204C Concerns having the ability to furnish the services described
herein are requested to give written notification (including telephone
number for a point of contact) to the procuring office above within
forty-five calendar days from the date of the synopsis. Provide upgrade
to existing UNITREE software and software maintenance for one (1) years
which shall include the following specifications: 1) The existing 5
Terabyte license shall be upgraded to a 10 Terabyte license; 2) The
upgraded license shall retain all the specifications (other than
storage size limitations) of the original license which are: a. Shall
be compatible with a Silicon Graphics Challenge XL computer system
running the IRIX 6.2 operating system; b. Shall be FDDI, Ethernet, and
TCP/IP compatible; c. Shall manage storage space as a hierarchy, at
the top of which is magnetic disk. Secondary storage will be
3480/3490E/D-3 magnetic tape; d. Shall migrate files from the cache
magnetic disk to the secondary storage under user defined parameters.
After files are moved, they may be deleted from the cache. File
migration and purging shall both occur automatically. Software shall
support a configurable trashcan; e. Shall allow separation of data and
control messages to allow data to flow along the most direct
high-performance physical path from server to client and from client to
server, while control information can flow along a slower path; f.
Shall comply with the IEEE Mass Storage Reference Model. Shall use
socket interface for communications. Shall support ANSI standard label
capabilities for tape; g. Shall have no fixed upper limit to the
number of files that can be managed by the software. Shall provide file
management capabilities for a minimum of 10.0 terabytes of data
expandable to an unlimited volume of data that can be stored in the
system. Shall have no limit to the size of an individual file or to the
number of volumes that can be concatenated to store a file; h. Shall
allow functions to be distributed across many nodes in a network. Shall
allow the STK 4400 to be used to manage local disk as well as the
normal storage hierarchy associated with the system; i. Shall support
the STK ACS 4400 using the Timberline 3490E and the Redwood D-3 tape
transports; j. Shall allow access to the ACS 4400 through standard UNIX
functions, NFS and TCP/IP. No modifications shall be required to FTP
and NFS running on the end user's system; k. Shall provide a mechanism
to migrate data in multiple copies. Shall maintain a "shadow" copy of
the directory structure on a separate magnetic disk. Every transaction
affecting the directory structure must be done as an atomic update; l.
Shall provide basic security and report generation functions necessary
to manage and operate the system. Software maintenance shall include
phone support for resolving Unitree software problems, including
possibly the delivery of software patches to fix identified problems;
and delivery of new versions of Unitree provided software as Unitree
makes them available to their customers. Based on the information
available at this time, and in accordance with 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1),
implemented by FAR 6.302-1, the Government considers the item specified
as a sole source from Unitree Software, Inc., Dublin, California, and
proposes to negotiate a contract with that firm on that basis. However,
should additional sources be identified, they will be considered. Firms
who feel that they can furnish the required item/services or its
functional equivalent (based upon the criteria specified herein) are
invited to submit in writing an affirmative response to this
announcement. An affirmative response would include literature,
brochures and such other materials which correspond to the required
items stated herein. This information will be evaluated and used to
determine if competitive opportunities exist. Since no solicitation
document exists, requests for such documents without accompanying
information will be considered non-responsive to this request without
further consideration. This notice may represent theGovernment's only
