office will issue Invitation for Bids for the construction of UPGRADE
ACADEMIC FACILITY, PHASE I, U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, CO. Bids will be
opened on or about 20 May 1997. This solicitation is unrestricted and
open to both large and small business participation. Site visits have
been established for every Wednesday during the bidding period
consisting of April 23, April 30, May 7 and May 14. Contractors
interested in inspecting the site of the proposed work must make
reservation by contacting Paul Jendzejec, Air Force Resident Engineer,
2032 North Academy Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80909-1506. Phone (719)
333-2973 Fax (719) 333-2979. Contractors are to meet in the connecting
link between CETF & Fairchild Hall for site visits. The work will
include the following: (Approx. quantities) Construction of the
renovation to various areas of Fairchild Hall (Bldg. No. 2354),
U.S.A.F. Academy, CO. The project consists of approximately 150,000
S.F. of extensive interior remodel work including architectural,
mechanical, electrical, telecommunications, lifesafety and
accessibility upgrades on the first and second floor of Fairchild Hall.
Miscellaneous square footage of support work in Mechanical rooms,
utility chases, etc. to support the infrastructure work within the
remodeled spaces. The work on this project will consist of: removals,
interior walls (metal stud w/drywall, cmu, etc), ceilings (acoustical
tile, drywall, plaster, etc.), interior glazing, doors (various types)
& hardware, casework, finishes (painting, ceramic tile, resilient
flooring, carpeting, etc.), HVAC (VAV, baseboard radiation, evaporative
cooling, etc.), DDC (Staefa Control System), plumbing (cold/hot water,
sanitary, natural gas, demineralized water, lab compressed air, acid
waste demolition, etc.), electrical (feeders, transformers, panels,
distribution, lighting, grounding, etc.), telecommunications
(telephone, televideo, computer network, etc.), fire protection (new
service line and new risers in stairwell areas to serve future use of
entire facility, automatic sprinkler system, rehab/extension of
existing sprinkler systems, etc.) fire detection & alarm
(reconfiguration of existing Kidde system, manual pull stations,
signaling appliances, smoke/heat detection, etc.), hazardous waste
removals & disposal (asbestos, lead based paint, PCB (light ballasts),
& mercury (fluorescent lamps)), miscellaneous concrete sawcutting and
concrete work, and miscellaneous site / concrete drive work. The
estimated construction cost of this project is between $7,500,000 and
$10,000,000. Contractor's Quality Control will be a requirement in this
contract. The Contractor will be required to commence work within 10
days after notice to proceed and complete the work 540 calendar days
after receipt of Notice to Proceed. Provisions will be included for
liquidated damages in case of failure to complete the work in the time
allowed. Performance and payment bonds will be required. All requests
for solicitation packages should be made in writing and no later than
14 days prior to bid opening. After such time, packages will be
furnished if supply is available. It has been determined that the
number of sets be limited to one (1) per firm. An order blank for
