LAMOND, 303-361-1249 The Department of Defense, OCHAMPUS intends to award a sole source purchase order to TransAmerica Occidental Life Insurance Company to acquire services for unique identification and registration of medicare individual physicians and other practitioners (competitively procured by the Department of Health and Human Services, Health Care Financing Administration), to perform identical functions and activities in identification and registration of CHAMPUS individual practitioners (providers). The services to be performed include processing each CHAMPUS contractor's provider file to identify those CHAMPUS individual providers who have already been assigned Unique Physician Identification Number (UPIN), determination and notification to each CHAMPUS contractor of those medicare individual practitioners from which the CHAMPUS contractor may be able to uniquely identify a given CHAMPUS individual provider, determination and assignment of a UPIN with notification to the CHAMPUS contractor of individual providers not previously included in the Medicare Physician Identification and Eligibility Record (MPIER) file of medicare practitioners, and determination and notification to each CHAMPUS contractor of those CHAMPUS individual providers where further information and correction is needed in order to determine whether the provider is already in the MPIER file or represents an additional provider to be assigned a UPIN and added to the file.
