COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MARCH 25,1997 PSA#180919 -- U.S. NAVY SHIP SURVIVABILITY CONFERENCE On 24 and 25 April 1997
at the Xerox Training Center Auditorium in Leesburg, VA, the Ship
Safety and Survivability Office (N86D) of the Chief of Naval
Operations, assisted by the Ship Research, Development and Standards
Subgroup of the Naval Sea Systems Command (SEA 03R), will host an
unclassified conference to update industry on the Ship Survivability
Roadmap and related R&D initiatives including selected technical base
and advanced engineering project briefings. This effort will establish
a government/industry dialog on affordable near term and future ship
survivability challenges in the 21st century. The principal focus of
the briefings will provide insight to major technology thrusts and
opportunities to consider in concert with reduced manning and life
cycle cost goals. Major technology thrusts in the survivability areas
of vulnerability and recoverability include damage control assessment
and monitoring, fire protection, damage tolerant structures and systems
protection. Open forum discussions will be held on both days. The
conference will start at 0800 on 24 April and complete by 1400 on 25
April. Deadline for registration is 7 April 1997. Attendance is open to
military and civilian, government and private industry but
participation is restricted to U.S. citizens only. To request
