COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MARCH 25,1997 PSA#1809INDUSTRY PRODUCT DEMONSTRATION LONG RANGE SNIPER WEAPONS/OPTICAL
SIGHTS/AMMO The Product Manager for Small Arms, located at the U.S.
Army Research, Development and Engineering Center (TACOM-ARDEC) will
conduct a capabilities demonstration off-the-shelf, long range sniper
weapons, optical sights and ammunition. This demonstration will
quantify the existing level ofcommercial technology and assist in
defining the operational apabilities achievable under a near term,
Non-Developmental Item (NDI) solution. Interested contractors are
invited to demonstrate the dispersion/hit probability performance of
their existing commercial systems or components (i.e. weapon, optic or
ammunition). This demonstration will be conducted at the Aberdeen Test
Center (ATC), Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD, starting approximately 28
April 1997. This demonstration is open to all interested vendors.Those
contractors with individual components must contact the POC listed
below and discuss the resources needed to demonstrate their stated
performance. For those vendors with existing systems (weapon mounted
with optical sight) the following minimum standards apply: Must be a
man portable, shoulder fired system weighing less than 32 pounds; must
provide target acquisition/identification capability out to 1500
meters (2000) meters desired); must allow a shooter to fire a minimum
of 60 rounds per day without suffering physical degradation; must not
present any uncontrolled safety hazards to the operator or associated
test support personnel; must not present any adverse environmental
effects. Each contractor will be requested to fire a predetermined
sequence of targets and ranges. The total number of rounds to be fired
will not exceed 100 rounds, including zeroing rounds. Vendors
submitting weapons or complete systems must provide a sufficient
quantity of qualified gunners to complete this demonstration within one
day for each weapon system submitted. Submitted systems should meet the
above requirements and are not limited to Caliber .50. Any specialty
ammunition required is the responsibility of the vendor. Military
standard Caliber .50 ammunitiion will be provided upon request. All
interested vendors are responsible for all associated transportation
costs and agree to participate in this demonstration at no cost to the
Government. Firms interested in participating in this demonstration

will be assigned a specific date and time to be a ATC and conduct their
