WARFARE DEFENSE (BWD) -- BACTERIAL PATHOGENICITY; SOL: SS97-27 DUE
DATE: N/A PoC: Alan Frederick, PCO, (703) 696-0047.The Defense Advanced
Research Projects Agency (DARPA) intends to award a Research and
Development (R&D) contract, sole-source, to the Stanford University
School of Medicine for R&D in support of DARPA'S BWD Program. A
research team directed by Professor Stanley Falkow will employ unique
approaches, techniques and facilities in identifying novel targets for
Innovative Countermeasures against Biological Warfare Agents,
including Yersinia Pestis, by focusing on genes expressed early during
infection in hosts, and especially those required for pathogen
survival. This effort is expected to be accomplished within 36 months
at an estimated cost of $1.7 Million. In light of its previous efforts,
this source is the only known source to the Government capable of
undertaking R&D in this specific aspect of BWD. This effort will not
replicate the results of any known R&D to which the Government has
ready access; nor does this procurement duplicate any known or recent
acquisitions of the same intent. This announcement is not a request for
competitive proposals. See note no. 22. (0083) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0012 19970326\A-0012.SOL)
