Engineering Lab Coupon Testing "iaw Attachment A", NSN 9G, Qty: 00000001, LT; The following is an outline plan for a coupon-based program to evaluate galling of 13-8PH Mo stainless steel in support of problems noted in~~ the surveillance phase of the H-46 DCU rotorhead program. The specific objectives of this program are twofold; (1) evaluate the capability of proposed schemes to eliminate or mitigate galling of H-46 DCU hubs and pitch varying housings manufactured from 13-8PH Mo stainless steel. (2) evaluate potential fatigue strength debit associated with onset and progression of galling. Both of these objectives apply to evaluations concerning the DCU hub horizontal pin bore with Ag plating proposed for galling elimination. Fatigue testing is not contemplated for the DCU pitch varying blade stop evaluation since fatigue failure locations in the past have been outside the observed area of galling. The proposed application of a Karon covered sacrificial plate to eliminate galling, however, will be evaluated. The galling test method, termed ~block on shoe~ is based on a Ge Aircraft Engines specification (E50TF76). The configurations of the shoe and block galling specimens are shown in the Metcut Research Assoc drawing #13003. No phone requests.
