Hughes, Contracting Officer, (301) 227-1944; Earnestine Binns, Contract Specialist, (301) 227-1904 INTRODUCTION: The National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA) is seeking parties interested in responding to future RFPs for the capture of data associated with named features (populated places, streams, mountains, etc.) that appear on approximately 100, 1:50,000 scale, Topographic Line Maps (TLMs), and providing that data in a specified digital format for database loading. Data to be captured for each feature includes proper names (names are in roman alphabet only), designations (populated place, stream, mountain, etc.), geographic coordinates accurate to seconds, and a source identification. Note: the requirement shall stipulate positional accuracy to the second. The source TLMs may be NIMA-produced or foreign-produced, but are unclassified in all cases. Data to be captured is only for those features not currently in the NIMA database. Prospective offerors shall be responsible for making the determination of which features to capture by comparison of sheet data to data contained in the NIMA database which is on the Internet. Thus, the ability to read topographic maps and interpret contour lines is a requirement. Knowledge of regional geography and related languages may be necessary for some assignment areas. The Government anticipates similar work in the future, in high volume, and wishes to identify sources. Please provide information on production methodology, capacity, scheduling and estimated unit cost. Cost information is requested for planning purposes only and is not a bid.
