15 -- REQUIREMENT FOR TWIN TURBINE-POWERED LIGHT UTILITY HELICOPTER SOL DEA-97-R-0025 POC Jeffrey Saylor, Contract Specialist, (202) 307-4366 The U.S. Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration has a requirement for a a twin turbine powered light utility helicopter for use in air-to-ground surveillance roles, aerial photography, airborne D.F. tracking of radio transmitters, transportation of technical personnel, parts and equipment as well as insertion into areas of rugged terrain. This helicopter will also be utilized for short-range, over water search and surveillance operations. Main rotor blades should be capable of being folded by the pilot daily. The helicopter will need to operate in high ambient temperature and humidity conditions resulting in high temperature/high altitude operating capability, in both twin and single engine modes. The airframe must have numerous external hard points and be capable of hoist and repelling operations, and have maximum controllability in confined areas. The Government anticipates an availability goal of no less than 80 percent based on operational requirements of 750 hours per year and a minimum of 15,000 life cycle operating hours.
