synopsis/solicitation for commercial items prepared in accordance with
the format in FAR Subpart 12.6, as supplemented with additional
information included in this notice. This announcement constitutes the
only solicitation; proposals are being requested and a written
solicitation will not be issued. Contract performance period will be
from the date of award through September 30, 1997 with a one year
renewal option and is subject to the availability of funds. Contractor
will provide full transportation and courier services for the VA
Connecticut Healthcare System. Services will include transport of
passengers (ambulatory patients, non-ambulatory patients and staff) as
well as pick-up and delivery of lab specimens and various medical
supplies. Drivers must be qualified to operate cars, wheelchair vans,
mini vans and 15 passenger buses. Vehicles and insurance for vehicles
will be provided by the VA but all driver liability will be at the
contractor's expense. It is estimated that theseservices will require
the equivalent of eight full time drivers per week, varying shifts.
Payments will be based on the total number of hours worked. Cost per
hour-initial period $__ ___. Cost per hour-option year one $__ ___. All
drivers must possess a valid and current drivers license with public
service endorsements for the State of Connecticut with driving
histories free of moving traffic violations for the last three calendar
years. Driving distances will vary from day to day but individual trips
will be within a 200 mile radius of the VA Connecticut's Campuses in
Newington and West Haven. Trips may be regularly scheduled or assigned
on a day to day basis. SIC code 4119 applies to this procurement.
