COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF APRIL 2,1997 PSA#1815NIH, OPM, AB-A, EPS, Rm 894, 6120 Executive Blvd., MSC 7260 Bethesda,
Maryland 20892-7260 66 -- MASS SPECTROMETER SOL 263-97-B(BN)-0032 DUE 051997 POC Ms.
Foteni T. Tiffany, Contract Specialist, 301-402-3079. The National
Institutes of Health, National Institute of Child Health and Human
Development, Laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Biophysics requires
a High Performance Floor-Standing Integrated MALDI-TOF and an
Electrospray-TOF Mass Spectrometer System to enable the study of high
molecular weight biomolecules, particularly proteins. This can be
accomplished most effectively only by instruments able to measure
molecular weights with high accuracy and able to resolve the
monoisotopic ion from the main isotope cluster at masses less than or
equal to 4000. The following additional information is furnished for
the Mass Spectrometer: High Performance Floor-Standing Integrated
MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometer: 1) The system shall have a resolution of
no less than 15,000 (m/z 1296, 5733, 8565) with a 10 ppm mass accuracy
for peptide masses when internal calibration is employed. 2) The
system shall employ a two filed gridded ion source with Delayed
Extraction (DE) Technology to enable the acquisition of high resolution
data at high mass accuracy. Delay times and voltages shall be
continuously variable. 3) Shall include collision cell, gas inlet and
appropriate fittings for gas connection and regulation. 4) The system
shall include a 100 well sample plate capable of reproducible full X-Y
control positioning and capable of automatic operation. Video camera
and monitor for sample viewing shall be provided. 5) Shall have a 2 Ghz
acquisition system consisting of the data system General Purpose
Interface Bus, control hardware and software, and a 2 Ghz digitizing
oscilloscope with 500K record length. Benchtop Electrospray Ionization
(ESI)-based Mass Spectrometer: 1) Shall be a benchtop electrospray
ionization (ESI)-based mass spectrometry system that provides
capability for the acquisition of high resolution time-of-flight
spectra. Mass range shall be selectable as 40-4000 Da and 100-10,000
Da. 2) Shall have a resolution of no less than 5,000 over entire mass
range simultaneously when operating in the 40-4000 Da range. Under
these conditions, mass accuracy shall be plus or minus 20 ppm using
internal calibration. Attributes Common to Each Mass Spectrometer: 1)
Both instruments shall be capable of positive or negative ion
operation. 2) Both systems shall include all hardware and software
necessary for acquisition, display, manipulation, reporting, and
printing of mass spectra data files. Computers provided with the
systems shall be Pentium processor based and include at least 32 Mbytes
of FAM and 1 Gbyte hard disk. 3) Systems shall include software search
engine optimized for searching data bases using mass measurements made
at high mass accuracy. All responsible sources may submit a bid which
shall be considered by the agency. (0090) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0263 19970402\66-0005.SOL)
