A -- RESEARCH SUGGESTIONS FOR UNIVERSITY RESEARCH CONSORTIUM EVALUATION & SUPPORT SOL CBD075 DUE 043097 POC Radean Wilcox WEB: Idaho National Engineering & Environmental Lab University Research Consortium, http://id.inel.gov/urc. E-MAIL: Radean Wilcox, rcw@inel.gov. Lockheed Martin Idaho Technologies Company, Idaho National Engineering & Environmental Laboratory University Research Consortium, Idaho Falls, ID 83415-2214. Lockheed Martin Idaho Technologies Company (LMITCO), a management and operating contractor for the Department of Energy (DOE) at the Idaho National Engineering & Environmental Laboratory (INEEL) University Research Consortium (URC) is seeking research suggestions to be evaluated and supported through the University Research Consortium (URC). The URC was established by INEEL in early 1995 and its objective is to help utilize the strong engineering capabilities of INEEL to develop technologies that will contribute to meeting national needs. The URC Program is managed by Dr. Debonny L. Shoaf, on behalf of LMITCO Chief Scientist, Dr. David P. Cauffman and Dr. Barton Krawetz, LMITCO Laboratory Director and Executive Vice President for Research and Development. The URC supports that objective by awarding funds to university researchers who develop synergistic research projects involving university researchers, INEEL researchers and industrial participants where appropriate. During fiscal 1996 LMITCO awarded funds totaling $7.36 million under the INEEL URC program to 47 research projects at 23 universities in 17 states. This announcement seeks brief prospectuses from universities proposing to carry out new research projects consistent with the objectives of the program. Work should be planned to begin in December 1997, using FY98 funds. The prospectuses will be screened promptly and invitations to submit full proposals will be issued to those projects that appear to be best suited to the objectives of the program. Prospectuses must be received at INEEL by April 30, 1997. Research topics in the following five areas are of interest: management of water resources; agricultural data utilization; treatment of mixed waste; nuclear technologies; and natural hazard mitigation. Approximately six million dollars in FY98 funds are expected to be available for support of research on those topics. The solicitation document includes more detailed descriptions of the research topics of particular interest, and instructions for preparation and submission of prospectuses. Copies of the solicitation document are available from INEEL by accessing http://id.inel.gov/urc. If you have questions, send an e-mail to rcw@inel.gov. (No telephone requests, please).
