The National Park Service, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, San Francisco, Ca on behalf of the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park is soliciting proposals on a full and open competitive basis from qualified organizations to enter into a firm fixed price contract to provide the services to drydock the Historic Ship Balclutha; repair the underwater hull, coating it with anti-fouling paint; repair and coat the foremast; and fumigate the ship to rid the vessel of beetles that are attacking and destroying the wood deck. The contractor shall provide a dry dock or lifting facilities which are safe to handle the vessel's displacement and its riveted steel hull form. The Historic Ship Balclutha is a full rigged historic ship with the following characteristics: length overall: 307 ft.; length of water line: 256 ft.; maximum beam: 38 ft. 5 in.; draft forward: 12 ft. 5 in; draft aft: 13 ft. 0 in.; gross tonnage: 1860 tons; net tonnage: 1590 tons; construction: rivet steel. The hull will need cleaning, repairs, preparation and coatings applied. The areas are considered to be in fair condition with localized areas of severe deterioration. The contractor shall furnish all labor, materials, equipment, blocking, staging and tools and any necessary temporary support for structures or equipment that may be affected by the requirements of this specification and shall perform in conformance with environmental and safety laws or regulations unless otherwise stipulated. The ship is subject to historical compliance within the Federal and State codes.
