Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts intends to negotiate a sole source contract with Edwin Schlossberg Incorporated (ESI), 641 Sixth Avenue, New York, New York 10011. The services of this contract may include the planning, design, and production services required to (1) prepare future updates of the Interpretative Master Plan and Signage Program, (2) implement the updated Interpretative Master Plan and Signage Program, and (3) prepare and implement a comprehensive signage program for the Kennedy Center. It is anticipated that the present phases of this work will include the following Kennedy Center projects: (1) the preparation of a comprehensive graphic standards program for signs; (2) the designs, plans and specifications, and production observation for signs in the Concert Hall; (3) the designs, plans and specifications, and production observation for temporary multimedia orientation stages and for the orientation film to be shown at these stages; and (4) the design for improvements at the John F. Kennedy sculpture area in the Grand Foyer and plans and specifications and production observation for the exhibit program that will be phase 1 of these improvements. The planning, design, and production services may include providing final art work and scripts, prototypes, cost estimates, schedules, studies, reviews, evaluatinos, concept and final designs, plans and specifications, assistance during the bidding/negotiated procurement, production observation, and fabrication and installation. Disciplines required may include interpretation, exhibit design, public information systems, and related expertise. See Numbered Note 22. This contract will be a one-year order contract with four option years. The minimum amount for the contract will be $10,000, and the fees for each year of the contract shall not exceed $1,000,000. Under another Kennedy Center contract, ESI has researched and analyzed the interpretive needs of the Kennedy Center and prepared the Interpretive Master Plan and Signage Program of the Kennedy Center. ESI is now updating the Interpretive Master Plan and Signage Program based on the recently completed Kennedy Center Space Use Master Plan. In doing this work, ESI has become uniquely qualified to provide the design work and related expertise for making any future updates to the Interpretive Master Plan and Signage Program, for implementing the updated Interpretive Master Plan and Signage Program, and for preparing and implementing a comprehensive signage program for the Kennedy Center. To hire a new interpretive exhibit designer would require a duplication of the work already completed by ESI and would result in additional costs for the Kennedy Center.
