COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF APRIL 7,1997 PSA#1818MINES, COUNTERMINE & DEMOLITIONS SYMPOSIUM & EXHIBITION Mines,
Countermine & Demolitions Symposium & Exhibition, May 19-21, 1997,
Reno, Nevada. As we approach the 21st century, the reality of mine
warfare is being defined by worldwide events. The focus of attention on
anti-personnel landmines and their impact on humanity evokes many
challenges for the future of mine warfare. The proliferation of
anti-personnel landmines and technologies has drawn focus on the
hazards of mine warfare as well as the need for humanitarian demining.
This symposium will explore the emerging non-lethal technologies as
potential alternatives for anti-personnel landmines. A global
perspective of today's methods and tomorrow's challenges and
technologies, future equipment and low intensity conflicts, and the
next generation concepts for demining will be brought into focus. This
symposium concludes with a challenge to industry and government that
will shape our efforts and future needs of mine warfare as we enter the
next century. The Keynote Speech "Dealing with Mines in Bosnia -- A
First Hand Look" will be given by Major General William L. Nash,
Commanding General, 1st Armor Division, US Army Europe, 7th Army. Other
