E-MAIL: Michelle Lewis, NAWCTSD, Code 27223,
Michelle_Lewis@ntsc.navy.mil. The pressure to reduce shore-based
training facilities persists. This reduction in shore-based facilities
presupposes that a variety of knowledge and skills can be acquired and
maintained just as effectively through shipboard on-the-job training
(OJT), self-study materials, distance learning, and exportable
interactive courseware (ICW). However, empirical evidence to this
effect does not exist. In order to maintain an optimal state of
readiness in light of this recent trend, a thorough investigation of
strategies for creating a continuous learning environment on board navy
ships is needed. Theoretically-rooted principles and guidelines for
enhancing team members' ability to learn from day to day experiences
and to impart their own unique knowledge and skills to one another must
be developed. No telephone request for solicitation will be accepted.
