notification is being circulated in accordance with Article 10.6.
G/TBT/Notif.97.85 dated 12 March 1997. 1. Member to Agreement
notifying: JAMAICA. If applicable, name of local government involved
(Articles 3.2 and 7.2). 2. Agency responsible: The Bureau of Standards
(Jamaica) JBS Agency or Authority designated to handle comments
regarding the notification can be indicated if different from above. 3.
Notified under Article 2.9.2. 4. Products covered (HS or CCCN where
applicable, otherwise national tariff heading. ICS numbers may be
provided in addition, where applicable): Rum. 5. Title, number of pages
and language(s) of the notified document: Standard Specification for
Rum (Revised). Approximately Sixteen (16) Pages. 6. Description of
content: This is a revision of the standard published in 1988. General
and detailed requirements for rum are prescribed. The revision
introduces a clause allowing the use of approval blenders. The
labelling clause stipulates that of the blended rum is sold in retail
quantities, the blenders shall be declared on the label. Sampling
procedures are given and test methods are appended. 7. Objective and
rationale: To enable the consumer to receive a quality product and also
to expand the export market for the product. 8. Relevant documents: A
notice of the standard will appear in the Jamaica Gazette Supplement --
Proclamations, Rules and Regulations. When adopted, the document will
appear as a Jamaica National Standard which will be available for sale.
9. Proposed date of adoption: June 1997; Proposed date of entry into
force: June 1997. 10. Final date for comments: 30 April 1997. 11. Texts
