ext 350 Concerns having the ability to provide the following map
base(s) are requested to give written notification (including the
telephone number for a point of contact) to the procuring office above
within TEN (10) calendar days from the date of this synopsis. Based on
information available at this time, and in accordance with 41 U.S.C.
253(c)(1), implemented by FAR 6.302-1, the Government considers the
item specified as a sole source from Unique Media, 123 Carlton Street,
Suite 415, Toronto, Canada and proposes to negotiate a contract with
that firm on that basis. However, should additional sources be
identified, they will be considered. Firms who feel that they can
furnish the required item or its functional equivalent (based upon the
criteria specified herein) are invited to submit in writing an
affirmative response to this announcement. An affirmative response
would include literature, brochures and such other materials which
correspond to the required items stated herein. This information will
be evaluated and used to determine if competitive opportunities exist.
Since no solicitation document exists, requests for such documents
without accompanying information will be considered non-responsive to
this request without further consideration. This notice may represent
the Government's only official notice of this procurement. Salient
Characteristics: Vendor must provide a map base (a contemporary
adaptation of the centuries-old three-dimensional style of map showing
a birds-eye view prespective of both the geography and urban
development) of Canada (with an extended Pacific Ocean area) and a map
base of the Pacific Rim; both compatible with existing maps in the
series. Vendor to add to these maps, government provided information on
epicenters and text, to supply full-color proof for approval, and 3000
copies of final trimmed map by July 15, 1997. These map bases will be
used to produce seismicity maps that will be part of an ongoing series
of such maps that have been issued by the USGS National Earthquake
Information Center. To be compatible with previous maps of the series,
these new maps must have the following characteristics: They must be
in be printed using bright colors; they must show topograghic features
such as mountain ranges using three dimensional drawings (not
elevation contours); they must show urban development in the form of
three dimensional drawings of notable manmade structures; they must be
between 18" to 19" in height; they must be between 27" and 28" in
width. To ensure compatiblity and availability of the map base, an
example copy printed in full color must be submitted as part of any
responding proposal. For the base map selected, permission must be
granted for the National Earthquake Information Center to made reduced
