Control and Prevention, National Institute for Occupational Safety and
Health (NIOSH) has a requirement for a virtual reality display system
that will be used as a tool for conducting safety research. The
virtual reality display system shall have four projection screens,
three screens for walls and a one screen for the floor. The screens
shall be approximately 10 ft. X 10 ft. for the floor screen and 10 ft.
X 9 ft. for the wall screens. The images projected on the screens will
appear to be three dimensional by projecting the image in stereo. The
user will wear an apparatus which will separate the left eye image from
the right eye image. The apparatus which separates the left and right
eye images shall not weigh over 10 ounces. Multiple users will be able
to use the virtual reality display system, but only one user's
perspective will be tracked, and therefore will control the perspective
for the other users. A wand or six degree of freedom mouse will be used
to interact with the virtual scene. An audio system will be used to
inject sound into the virtual environment. Software shall be provided
that will allow NIOSH researchers to use their existing virtual
environments written with World Tool Kit Release 6 by Sense8 Inc. in
the virtual reality display system. The contract performance period
shall be approximately nine months. Only written request for
solicitation 97-95(N) will be honored. The solicitation will be
released O/A May 15, 1997. Numbered Note 1 applies to this acquisition.
