NEW ZEALAND: EXPLANATORY NOTES -- PROPOSAL P92 The following notification is being circulated in accordance with Article 10.6. G/TBT/Notif.97.107. 1. Member to Agreement notifying: NEW ZEALAND. If applicable, name of local government involved (Articles 3.2 and 7.2). 2. Agency responsible: Australia New Zealand Food Authority. Agency or authority designated to handle comments regarding the notification can be indicated if different from above. 3. Notified under Article 2.9.2. 4. Products covered (HS or CCCN where applicable, otherwise national tariff heading. ICS numbers may be provided in addition, where applicable): Sports foods. 5. Title, number of pages and language(s) of the notified document: Explanatory Notes -- Proposal P92 (35 pages, English). 6. Description of content: A proposal to regulate the composition and labelling of supplementary sports foods specifically formulated to assist sports people in achieving nutritional or performance goals. Food for sale in New Zealand must comply with either the Australian Food Standards Code or theNew Zealand Food Regulations. These transitional arrangements will continue until the joint Australia-New Zealand Food Standards Code is adopted. 7. Objective and rationale: Consumer health and safety. 8. Relevant documents: Australian Food Standards Code. 9. Proposed date of adoption: Recommendation to Government anticipated by mid-July 1997; Proposed date of entry into force: Anticipated towards the end of 1997 with an appropriate lead-in period. 10. Final date for comments: The domestic closing date for comments is 30 April 1997. However comments from WTO Members will be accepted until 30 May 1997 if notice of intention to comment is received by the domestic closing date. 11.
