(TETHER ANCHORAGES FOR RESTRAINT SYSTEMS) The following notification is
being circulated in accordance with Article 10.6. G/TBT/Notif.97.102
dated March 26 1997. 1. Member to Agreement notifying: CANADA. If

applicable): Tether anchorages for restraint systems. 5. Title, number
of pages and language(s) of the notified document: Proposed Amendment
to the Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations (Tether Anchorages for
Restraint Systems) (Pages 888-913). 6. Description of content: On 1
January 1989, it became mandatory for all passenger cars to be equipped
with tether anchorages for securing the tether straps on restraint
systems. Since that time, mini-vans, sport utility vehicles, light
trucks, and other vehicles not classed as passenger cars have become
popular with young families and are, consequently, frequently used to
transport young children. In order to facilitate and encourage the use
of tether straps, this amendment would extend the requirement for
tether anchorages to trucks and multipurpose passenger vehicles with a
gross vehicle weight rating of 3,864 kg, or less and an unloaded
vehicle weight of 2,495 kg, or less. 7. Objective and rationale:
