PACKAGES The following notification is being circulated in accordance
with Article 10.6. G/TBT/Notif.97.103 dated 26 March 1997. 1. Member to
Agreement notifying: JAMAICA. If applicable, name of local government
involved (Articles 3.2 and 7.2). 2. Agency responsible: The Bureau of
Standards (Jamaica) JBS. Agency or authority designated to handle
comments regarding the notification can be indicated if different from
above. 3. Notified under Article 2.9.2. 4. Products covered (HS or
CCCN where applicable, otherwise national tariff heading. ICS numbers
may be provided in addition, where applicable): Cigarettes. 5. Title,
number of pages and language(s) of the notified document: Standards
Specification for the Labelling of Cigarette Packages (Approximately 9
pages). 6. Description of content: Sets out the information to be
included on the labels of packages of cigarettes and the method of
display of such information. It gives the health warning to be placed
on labels. This applies to all cigarettes which are offered for retail
sale in Jamaica. The document must be read in conjunction with JS 1,
Part 20, Jamaican Standard Specification for the labelling of
prepackaged goods. 7. Objective and rationale: Consumer protection. 8.
Relevant documents: The Daily Gleaner, 26 January 1996, page 7C. When
adopted the document will appear as a Jamaican National Standard which
will be available for sale. The document is equivalent to the Regional
(CARICOM) Standard CCS 0026: 1992. 9. Proposed date of adoption: N/A;
Proposed date of entry into force: September 1996. 10. Final date for
