contiguous areas of the Jemez and Espanola Ranger Districts of the
Santa Fe National Forest, Bandelier National Monument, Department of
Energy/Los Alamos National Laboratory administered land and Los Alamos
County, New Mexico appear to have grown to levels threatening natural
and cultural resources, private property and public safety. It also
appears the current methods to control the size of the elk population
have not been suffient and as a result the agencies mentioned above and
the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish have established an
interagency workgroup to explore problems and potential solutions
related to the elk population. The agencies through means of a service
contract will have a series of scoping meetings which will include all
agencies associated with the lands affected by the elk population as
well as all concerned citizens, local pueblos and organizations who
have an interest in elk management and related problems to solicit and
develop a full range of potential solutions. Interested contractors
must provide current or past experince in their ability to hold public
scoping meetings and possess or have the ability to acquire expertise
in resource management issues pertaining to wildlife management. This
is a time sensitive contract and will be performed according to an
agency prepared progress schedule. The lead agency in this endeavor is
Bandelier National Monument and all information requests pertaining to
this contract shall be requested from the contact person noted above.
