U -- TRAINING PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM DUE 053097 POC Point of Contact -- Marianela Dengo, Contract Specialist, (507) 272-3025, Maria T. deChirino, Contracting Officer, (507) 272-4650 General Description: The Panama Canal Commission, a corporation of the United States Government is seeking accredited colleges or universities interested in entering into an educational-training partnership program with the Commission. The objectives of the program are to: Use the expertise of the academic institution to enhance existing and develop new training programs in the areas such as maritime training, marine fire fighting, hazardous materials, safety and industrial training, and executive and managerial development; and obtain the services of qualified instructors to teach in the areas identified above and provide consultant services in the human resources development area, as well as make slots available to the Commission in the academic institution's regular classes and courses developed for the Commission. The academic institution will benefit from this agreement by: Establishing an extension of its academic operation to offer degree and non-degree programs to the general public in Panama and Latin America, and the worldwide maritime community; and using the Commission's training facilities and resources, as available. Training facilities and resources: Current facilities/resources include classrooms; specialized industrial training facilities; an advanced marine simulator facility for pilots training; a marine fire fighting training complex and simulator; a Training Center Complex with a modern language laboratory, microcomputer laboratories, multimedia learning centers, and a distance learning capability that allows participation in classes and meetings from remote locations. The total estimated area of training space currently available is 72,200 sq.ft., and the facilities are located throughout the canal area. This area may increase after December 31, 1999.
