Y -- DESIGN/BUILD ADVANCED LASER RESEARCH FACILITY (ALF), KIRTLAND AFB, NM SOL DACA47-97-R-0021 DUE 063097 POC Contract Specialist Theresa Armijo (505) 342-3458 (Site Code DACA47) Description of Work: The project includes the design and construction of a new 30,000 square foot laser research and administrative office facility and the demolition of the existing research facility (the existing facility is not located on the same site as the new structure). The ALF will be used for research and development of chemical, electrical, and hybrid lasers. The facility will require external chemical supplies, vacuum pumps and exhaust scrubbers in addition to the customary electrical support and personnel comfort systems. The quantity and variety of chemicals used, many of which present physical and/or health hazards, generate a need for extensive and diverse storage and handling facilities. Optical items are common to most laser work; therefore, clean room conditions will be required in the research laboratory facilities. A support chemistry laboratory and a machine shop will be part of the facility. The construction includes erection of the new lab facility, all support structures, concrete work, paving, rough and finish carpentry, mechanical and plumbing systems, electrical systems, and communications systems. Infrastructure work to include parking, sidewalks, relocation of four existing mobile offices, all utilities (water, gas, sanitary sewer and electrical distribution). Demolition includes asbestos and lead-based paint abatement and disposal. It is anticipated that the RFP will be issued on 16 May 1997. The SIC Code is 1542. The magnitude of construction is between $5,000,000 and $10,000,000. Bonding will be required for this acquisition.
