The San Diego Unified School District (District) is the eighth largest urban school disrict in the United States and serves more than 130,000 students in grades K-12. The District employs more than 11,000 full time employees, both certificated and classified. The Material Services Department of the Business Services Division is responsible for procurement, receiving, warehousing, distribution, and inventory management for all district materials and equipment, and for most district services. It also conducts printing services and delivers district mail to all facilities and departments. The District is interested in evaluating the effectiveness of District Material Services operations, in light of modern industry practices of purchasing/procurement, receiving, warehousing, distribution and inventory management. The District intends to obtain professional consulting services to analyze its Material Services operations. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of its current organization structure and operations and to recommend courses of action which will: 1) improve the effectiveness of the Material Services Department; 2) reduct the costs of providing materials and services to the District; and 3) streamline the processes of obtaining materials and services.!!
