BASIC REGULATIONS. AMENDMENT 1 The following notification is being
circulated in accordance with Article 10.6. G/TBT/Notif.97.116. 1.
Member to Agreement notifying: SLOVAK REPUBLIC. If applicable, name of
local government involved (Articles 3.2 and 7.2). 2. Agency
responsible: Slovak Ministry of Health. Agency or authority designated
to handle comments regarding the notification can be indicated if
different from above. 3. Notified under Article 2.9.2. 4. Products
covered (HS or CCCN where applicable, otherwise national tariff
heading. ICS numbers may be provided in addition, where applicable):
Wooden furniture, wooden furniture for offices, wooden furniture for
kitchens, wooden furniture for bedrooms, and other wooden furniture,
mattresses made of foam rubber or expanded plastics, mattresses made of
other materials. 5. Title, number of pages and language(s) of the
notified document: STN 91 0015:1990 Furniture. Upholstered Furniture.
Basic Regulations. Amendment 1. (2 pages, in Slovak). 6. Description of
content: The Standard STN 910015:1900 is amended as follows: Article
22: All materials used for above-mentioned products are required to be
hygienically sound. They have to comply with the requirements related
to the inflammability of upholstery. The composition of the materials
used for these products has to meet following requirement: the
formaldehyde emissions measured by chamber method in accordance with
the Slovak Standard STN 49 0030 must not exceed 0.035 mg.m3 in
furniture destined for bedrooms, childrooms, schools and hospitals, and
0.050 mg.m3 in furniture destined for kitchens, living rooms and
offices. Upon placing the inflammable source (lighted cigarette) to the
upholstery, the fire must not be spread, it has to extinguish
spontaneously within 60 minutes, or the smoldered area must not be
larger than 50 cm2. Article 26: The furniture structure has to enable
noiseless use, and the product must comply with technical requirements
for safety given in related Slovak standards. In case of air-tight
material, the product has to be furnished with the vents. Article 42:
Mechanical and physical properties are tested in accordance with the
Slovak Standards STN 49 0030, STN 91 0222, STN 91 0223, STN 91 0231,
and STN ISO 8191-1. 7. Objective and rationale: Protection of the
