San Diego, CA 92152-5113 R -- DEVELOPMENT OF THE DIGITAL-MICROMIRROR-DISPLAY ENGINE SOL
N66001-97-Q-0902 DUE 050897 POC POC Ms. Cindy Lammens, Code D212,
Contract Specialist, (619)553-4532. Contracting Officer,Mr. Glenn E.
Brown, (619)553-5725. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and
the Naval Command Control Ocean Surveillance Center are soliciting
quotes applications development of the Digital-Micromirror-Display
Engine. The Digital-Micromirror-Display (DMD ) is an exciting and
promising development in the area of truly digital displays using
microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) technology. Presently used in
high-brightness, projection display applications and business
activities primarily focused on high-brightness projection display
application, the DMD holds promise for use in many other applications.
DARPA and NRaD recognize the broader applicability of the Digital
Light Processing (DLP ) concept and the potential the presently
available DMD engine has as both a future product innovator and a
stimulating educational tool. Additional information can be accessed at
website http://www.ti.com/dlp/welcome.html. To that end, DARPA is
interested in sponsoring multiple (10-20) one-year efforts on proposed
uses and applications of theDMD engine. Each effort awarded pursuant
to this announcement will not exceed $99,900. Awardees under this
activity will receive funds sufficient to purchase a Texas Instrument
(TI) DMD engine, an initial training seminar to become acquainted with
the basic operational concepts of the TI DMD engine, and a modest
additional amount to cover the cost of personnel, material, and travel
expenses for a concluding one-day conference. This one-day conference
will be hosted by DARPA where all awardees will present the results of
their activities to each other, the government, Texas Instruments, and
industry nationwide. Each awardee under this design contest will
separately contract with TI for the purchase of the DMD engine and
Starter Kit and would need to execute TI's standard Evaluation
Agreement prior to the receipt of the goods. The Evaluation Agreement
addresses, among other terms, the non-exclusive arrangements between TI
and Awardee, the DMD engine is for development/evaluation purposes only
and is not for resale, there is no warranty of the DMD Engine, the
Awardee assumes all responsibility and liability for the property and
safe handling of the DMD engine, and the EMD engine may not be UL
and/or FCC approved. It is requested that quotes, including proposed
costs, be a maximum of 5 single spaced type written pages. Page one
(cover page) should be a summary of the submittal to include: Principal
Investigator (name, address, phone, fax, e-mail address), facility,
period of performance and total cost. Page 5 should represent a total
cost breakdown to include labor material and travel. The remaining
three pages should clearly state the application and significance of
the application for the government, industry, and or educational
institutes. Selection will be based on the proposed effort's innovation
and value to the government, as well as the compliance to the period of
performance within one year, and the cost realism of effort within the
limits previously setforth. It is requested that the proposal be
submitted as two hard copies and also in electronic form (one
diskette), such that it can be read by Microsoft Word 5.0 or higher,
and WordPerfect 3.0 or higher, and Excel. PC or Macintosh format is
acceptable. Quotes are due no later than 3:00 PM PST 15 days from date
of publication. Should the 15th day fall on either a week end or
