Reefe, Contract Administrator, Paul Scarborough, Contracting Officer, (301) 443-4420, FAX (301) 443-0424 The Food and Drug Administration intends to award a purchase order to Aylin Carrasco-Bonifacino on a sole-source basis to 1) assess the comparative effectiveness of commercial disinfectants used to decontaminate medical devices, 2) establish the comparative toxicity of liquid disinfectant agents including chlorine, peracetic acid, hydrogen peroxide, metal-based formulations, formaldehyde, phenol and glutaraldehyde on an assay using different cells, 3) develop standard methods for contaminating surfaces with model microorganisms, and 4) determine the extent by which salt and organic matter change the efficiency of disinfectants and determine conditions that could result in failure of disinfectant on contaminated medical devices.
