(202) 287-3238. The Smithsonian Institution is seeking proposals to
furnish all supervision, labor, materials, tools, equipment and
services required for renovation of the National Air & Space Museum as
set forth on drawings sheets 1 through 211 and specification pages 1
through 795, both dated February 14, 1997 for OPP Project No. 923504.
The Scope of Work (for the Base Bid and all alternates) includes, at a
minimum: Demolition and replacement of skylights and window wall
systems, construction of exterior vestibules at the north and south
entrances, painting of interior steel trusses, ceiling replacement at
the first and second floors, public address system modifications,
communications cable and raceway system, exterior metal flashing at the
intersection of third floor passageway roofs and facade, removal of
stains from interior marble walls, interior lighting replacement,
installation of walkoff mat systems at the north and south vestibules,
temporary relocation and protection of museum objects/exhibits,
lead-based paint abatement in the garage and garage painting, abatement
of asbestos in the sealant of the skylight system, painting of interior
first and second floor areas, hydronic heat exchange snow melt system
installation at the north and south entrances, and building interior
security system. All firms interested in submitting a proposal for this
