(404) 842-6785 The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
contemplates awarding a contract for collection of blood specimens from
health care workers and source patients following occupational
exposures to HIV-infected blood. The contractor shall prepare a
detailed plan for collection of blood specimens from source patients
and exposed health care workers; shipment of specimens to CDC for
testing; and collection of data regarding the health care workers,
source patients, and exposure. Also, the contractor shall submit to CDC
at least 20 specimens from source patients involved in occupational
percutaneous exposures to HIV- infected blood. The Contractor also
shall submit to CDC specimens from 3-4 HCWs involved in percutaneous
exposures with a higher risk of HIV transmission (i.e., exposures with
at least two of the following factors: deep injury, visible blood on
device, procedure involving needle placed directly in a vein or artery,
or end-stage AIDS [terminal illness, may be marked by multiple
opportunistic infections, very low CD4 count, or high viral load] in
source patient), 3-4 HCWs involved in percutaneous exposures with a
lower risk of HIV transmission (i.e., exposures with zero or one of the
following factors: deep injury, visible blood on device, procedure
involving needle placed directly in a vein or artery, or end-stage AIDS
in source patient), and 2-3 HCWs (i.e., "controls") involved in
percutaneous exposures to blood from HIV negative source patients
collected at baseline and at specified times during postexposure
follow-up. The contractor shall also provide a variety of HIV-infection
and related data to the CDC for each source patient and health care
worker. The anticipated performance period for the entire contract is
12 months. Requests for the solicitation will be filled on a limited
first-come-first-served basis until the supply is exhausted. The date
specified for receipt of offers will be approximately 30 days after the
RFP issue date. Requests for the RFP must specify the RFP No.
