The Corporation for National Service plans to support up to 15 National Service Fellowships beginning September 1997. The Fellowships will be in the form of a contract, made directly to individuals, for up to $25,000 for a nine to ten month period ($2,500 per month). Potential Fellows must submit a proposal of importance to the Corporation on a significant issue they would address. The potential fellow must also show the contribution they would make and the anticipated outcome resulting from their efforts. The four (4) evaluation criteria elements are as follows and are in descending order of importance: (1) Viability and usefulness of outcomes identified in the proposal to the Corporation . ( 2) Demonstrably substantial and successful work experience in a field related to the applicant's proposal; and/or (3) Academic credentials (post graduate); and/or (4) Experience performing significant service (including experience as an AmeriCorps Member or Learn and Serve America Participant). This proposal mustbe submitted to the Corporation not later than June 16, 1997. Fellowship assignments will be carried out where the Corporation (or possibly State Commissions) maintains offices and can provide space and management. Along with producing the outcomes specified in their proposal, Fellows will serve on a self-managed team with other Fellows to assess progress, consider synergy among projects, and for purposes of individual development. Fellowship candidates must be citizens or permanent resident aliens of the United States.
