N00014-97-R-JJ05., synopsis@contracts.nrl.navy.mil. The Naval Research
Laboratory conducts basic and applied research involving analysis,
characterization and performance studies of a wide range of materials
ranging from freons to toxic contaminants in ship bilge water. In
addition, new sensors, sensor interfaces, and analytical and diagnostic
technologies are developed for both laboratory and field
instrumentation. The Branch supports a wide range of submarine
life-support issues, and ship liquid and solid waste analysis and
control issues as well as environmental applications. Environmental
techniques for characterization of buried ordnance and toxic/hazardous
materials are being pursued from the R&D level through advanced
technology demonstrations. Bioremediation technologies for mitigating
soil and sediment bound chemicals (polycyclic aromatic
hydrocarbons-PAHs, BTEX, metals, etc.) are being developed. Sensors for
ferrous metals, chemical vapors and biochemicals are being developed.
Both on-site and off-site support is required to address several
research tasks: (1) Analysis and Control of Airborne Chemicals; (2)
Chemical Analysis and Chemical Sensor Development; (3) Shipboard
Environmental Technologies for Liquid and Solid Wastes; (4)
Environmental Redemption and Site Characterization for Unexploded
Ordnance (UXO), and (5) Site Characterization and Redemption of
Contaminated Soils, Groundwater and River Sediments. Responders must
demonstrate capability to undertake off-site laboratory development
involving Task 3, must demonstrate experience in supporting system
engineering and integration, and R&D demonstration projects at remote
government facilities. No telephone requests for this requirement will
be accepted. Send requests for Solicitation N00014-97-R-JJ05 to:
