COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MAY 1,1997 PSA#1836SMALL SMART BOMB SYSTEM The Weapons, Air Base and Range Product Support
Office (ASC/VX) is in the process of developing the acquisition
strategy for the Small Smart Bomb (SSB) System. An industry day
briefing will be held to discuss initial requirements, program status
and the tentative acquisition approach. All interested companies are
invited to attend and provide feedback on our strategy. A question and
answer interchange will follow the general session. The vision of the
SSB weapon system is to allow for the employment of multiple miniature
munitions per targeting pass. The integrated system acquisition would
consist of the following: a) a multiple carriage system compatible with
the Mil-Std 1760 aircraft electrical interface and b) a low-cost,
all-weather, accurately guided weapon capable of attacking fixed and
relocatable targets.. The meeting will be held 11 June 1997, from 7:30
AM until 12:00 PM, in the Memorial Lake Theater, located at Eglin AFB,
FL. Seating is limited; therefore contractors will be limited to four
attendees per company. The briefing is unclassified; however, security
clearances will be requested in the event that classified information
might be discussed during the question/answer segment of the briefing.
Please provide the attendee names and security clearance information
via visit request to J. Lyde Graham, Lt, USAF (office (904) 882-8002,
ext 3155, fax (904) 882-7983) by 29 May 1997. The program office is
willing to hold separate one-hour discussions, as desired through 13
June 1997, with individual companies who intend to compete as prime
contractors for total system responsibility. These sessions are a forum
for contractors to provide direct feedback to the government on its
initial acquisition strategy. Requests for individual meetings should
be scheduled through J. Lyde Graham, Lt, USAF by 4 June 1997. Routine
communication should be directed to the Program Director, Charles R.
Fellows, Lt Col, USAF (office (904) 882-4785, ext 3222). Ms Audrea
Majors (office (904) 882-3525, ext 3175) will be available to answer
any contracting questions. The Ombudsman for this process is Colonel
Timothy R. Kinney, Commander, Air Force SEEK EAGLE Office, Eglin AFB,
