COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MAY 2,1997 PSA#1837Commander, U.S. Army Missile Command, Acquisition Center, Redstone
Arsenal, AL 35898-5280 66 -- ACOUSTIC SENSOR DEMONSTRATTION FOR SARGE VEHICLE POC Contact
Richard Vaughn, Technical Engineer, (205) 842-6837. The Unmanned Ground
Vehicle/Systems Joint Program Office, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama is
issuing a Sources Sought announcement for an Acoustic Sensor
demonstration for the Surveillance and Reconnaissance Ground Equipment
(SARGE) program. This demonstration shall be at no cost to the
Government. The minimum operational/installation requirement for
mounting sensors on the SARGE vehicle are: 1) Sensor size -- Processor
shall weigh less than 10 pounds and shall be housed in an
environmentally sealed housing. The dimensions of the housing shall not
exceed 8 inches in depth, 8 inches in width, and 4 inches in height.
The integration of the microphones and processor shall only be
mechanical. No electrical interface for data transmission to/from the
vehicle is required during this demonstration. 2) Bearing accuracy is
+/- 3 degrees minimum 3) Power Requirement -- 12-24 VDC and less than
1 Amp, 4) Environmental -- Water and shock resistant, 5) Required
algorithms for detection and classification: Ground Targets (tracked
and wheeled), Air Targets (Fixed and rotary wing) and Artillery
Detection, and 6) Detection Range: Tracked and wheeled targets shall
operate in various patterns with a maximum range from the sensors of 5
kilometers. However, participating demonstrators are requested to
demonstrate a sensor system with at least a 2 kilometer detection range
for tracked vehicles. The demonstrating contractor shall provide a
final report providing the analysis of the data collected and shall
include: target bearing, target classification and/or identification,
confidence factor, sound pressure level and Inter-Range Instrumental
Group time in the data reports. The analysis shall specify detection
range, classification/identification range, and bearing angle accuracy
based on collected demonstration data from the acoustic sensor and
groundtruth. A copy of the collected demonstration data and final
report shall be provided by each participant to the Technical Engineer
within 30 days of the completed demonstration. The data and final
report is permitted in contractor format. The microphones shall be
mounted on the SARGE vehicle as determined by the demonstrator with the
following dimensions of the roll-cage. Roll-cage top is 42 by 25
inches, roll cage bottom is 30 inches in back and 39 inches in front.
Vehicle length is 65 inches and vehicle width is 30 inches.
Demonstrators are requested to reply no later than 30 May 1997 and be
capable of providing their respective demonstration no later than 29
August 1997. If a demonstrator's acoustic sensor system does not fully
meet the above requirements by 29 August 1997, but are still
interested in demonstrating their system, a demonstration date will be
scheduled after the 29 August 1997 date. The Government intends on
providing a SARGE vehicle to each participating demonstrator for the
purpose of mounting their acoustic sensor system. In the event a SARGE
vehicle is not available, a surrogate mock of the SARGE roll-bar will
be provided. A detailed test plan will be provided by the Government
if requested by the demonstrator. The Government shall provide range
time, ground truth, amd targets for demonstration. It is recommended
that interested sources submit a request to or contact the technical
engineer, Mr. Richard Vaughn, at U.S. Army Missile Command,
AMSMI-RD-MG-IP, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, 35898. Phone number is (205)
842-6837, facsimile (205) 955-6839. The demonstration shall be at no
cost to the Government. (0120) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0332 19970502\66-0025.SOL)
