COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MAY 2,1997 PSA#1837WARFARE IN CYBERSPACE : INFORMATION WARFARE CONFERENCE As a result of
the incredible changes in telecommunications and what is being called
cyberspace, and the impact these changes are having on intelligence and
Electronic Warfare (EW), the Association of Old Crows (AOC) and the
National Security Agency (NSA) will co-sponsor a conference on the
subject on 5 -- 6 June 1997 at the NSA's Research and Engineering
Building, Ft. George G. Meade, Maryland. Considering more and more
computers are running networks and systems and are making decisions for
us, the theme of this conference is "Understanding and Coping with the
Changes in Telecommunications, Networks, and Systems." This theme, and
the fact that the conference will be conducted at the Top Secret/SCI
classification, mark it as a unique opportunity. Presentations will be
given by top-level government, military, and industry personnel to
include a presentation on the Information Operations Technology Center
by its director as well as a briefing on the President's Commission of
Critical Infrastructure Protection by the Commissioner. The conference
is being chaired by William Black, Special Assistant to the Director
for Information Warfare, NSA. General John J. Sheehan, USMC, Commander,
U.S. Atlantic Command, will be the keynote speaker. Lt Gen Kenneth
Minihan, USAF, Director, NSA, will provide closing remarks and discuss
how the NSA is dealing with the tremendous challenges in cyberspace.
The conference agenda will focus on three main areas: (1) Describing
the cyberspace environment: Speakers will describe the current and
future telecommunications environment and discuss changes in networks
and computer-based systems. (2) Infrastructure: Representatives from
industry and government will explain how infrastructure (utilities,
transportation, etc.) depends on computers and the vulnerabilities
which accompany this dependence. (3) Intelligence Community: General
Minihan and others will explain how some of the intelligence
organizations are dealing with the new environment. Clearly, this
conference is a "must attend" for those managers, task leaders,
customers, scientists, and engineers engaged in EW and intelligence
activities. For additional information, please contact the AOC
