Warren, 919-286-6914, ext. 6444 NOTICE OF INTENT: The VA Medical Center, Durham, NC intend to negotiate a sole source contract with CYTYC Incorporated of Marlborough, MA for the purchase of a ThinPrep 2000 Processor for processing specimens for Cytological Testing. This device analyze the body fluid specimen for the number of cells present and then present an optimal number of these cells on a single slide. This version of the ThinPrep technology includes performance enhancements that optimize the results of non-gynecologic cytology preparations. The agency has determined it is likely that substantial cost to the Government (that are not expected to be recovered through competition) would be incurred and unacceptable delays would ensure in fulfilling the agency's requirements if a competitive solicitation was issued. The agency has already determined that only one responsible source is capable of satisfying the Government's requirements. The applicable authority for this intent is 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1) as implemented by FAR 6.302-1. This is not a competitive Request for Proposal (RFP). See Note 22. SIC 5047 (0126)
