The VA Medical Center, St. Cloud, Minnesota intends to award a contract for purchase and installation of a revolving door. This is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items prepared in accordance with the format in FAR Subpart 12.6, as supplemented with additional information included in this notice. This announcement constitutes the only solicitation; Request for Quotes (RFQ) are being requested and a written solicitation will not be issued. Solicitation documents and incorporated provisions and clauses are those in effect through Federal Acquisition 90-45. This procurement is unrestricted. SIC 3442. Contractor shall provide and install an automatic, revolving door and aluminum store front enclosure at the front entrance to Building No 1, VA Medical Center, 4801 8th St N., St. Cloud, Minnesota 56303-2099. Work shall be coordinated so that the entrance to Building No. 1 is not closed for more than five working days. Contractor is responsible for assuring the installation is water and weather tight. The door shall be completely self contained and self supporting. There shall be no need for any external framing or bracing to set the door other than a level floor area. The door must be able to serve as a singular primary entrance to the building. This requires that the door meet all applicable accessibility standards as well as being able to allow the passage of an ambulance gurney. Therefore, the door shall be a two wing revolving door. The door must provide a means for mass exit in the event of an emergency i.e provide a clear opening of at least 48" in width. The door must be able to fail safe in the event of a power outage. Since this door will be the primary exit, if power is lost, entry and exit capacity must be maintained. Materials: Extruded aluminum alloy 6063-T5, except alloy used for color anodized aluminum, shall be as required to produce specified color, not less than 3 mm (0.125 inch) thick unless otherwise specified. Finish shall be dark bronze, chemically etched medium matte, with integrally colored anodic coating, Class I Architectural, 0.7 mils thick.. Door will be enclosed in aluminum store front. Color of door and store front must match. Glaze door wings and enclosure walls, with glass set in continuous glazing cushions, with glass as follows: Revolving door wings: Clear tempered 1/4" Enclosure Walls: Clear laminated 7/16" curved. Provide protection for aluminum against galvanic actin, wherever dissimilar materials are in contact, by painting the contact surfaces of the dissimilar materials with a heavy coat of bituminous paint (complete coverage), or by separating the contact surfaces with a performed neoprene tape having pressure sensitive adhesive coating on one side. Sensors: Provide redundant safety devices on the rotating component and at the entrance openings. No touch sensors shall be provided on the entrance to protect those just entering or exiting as the rotating component approaches. If activated, the door shall stop. No-touch sensors shall also be provided on the rotating component to sense a body in its path. The rotating door shall have sensors at the leading edge to protect someone just entering the door as well as sensors on the door mullions to protect an individual at any point in the path through the door. If an individual passing through the door is moving slowly or stopped, the door will sense this and stop without hitting the individual. As a redundant safety measure, compressible safety switches shall be installed on the rotating component both at the outer rail and horizontally at the bottom rail. If activated, the door shall stop. All safety devices shall be controlled by a central processing unit. The processor shall self diagnose the devices. If a malfunction is detected, the door shall stop in the fail safe position. A digital readout shall provide maintenance instruction. Fire Egress: The automatic door shall be tied to the building fire alarm system. Upon activation of the fire alarm system, the door shall automatically stop in the fail safe position where people can exit the door freely through an opening of at least 48". Battery Back-Up: In the event of a loss of power, the door shall automatically rotate to the fail safe position where exit and entry can commence manual. Function: The automatic door shall have the capability to function in the following modes: 1. Continuous rotation, 2. Rotation only when activated by motion sensor on either side of the door. The door shall stop after the person has cleared the door, 3. Manual operation. Rotation controlled by forward and reverse switches. 4. Locked in closed position. 5. Emergency stop. There shall be an emergency stop switch on each side of the door. Lighting: Provide adequate lighting in each bay of the door. Drive: Door shall be driven by two motors. Each motor shall be capable of driving the door by itself in the event that the other fails. Installation: Install revolving doors in prepared openings in accordance with manufacturers installation instructions. Set anchors and secure to adjacent construction where required. Adjust revolving doors to operate easily and rotate evenly. Adjust weather-stripping to make even contact with surfaces. Adjust speed control for required revolutions per minute. Adjust pressure required to collapse doors to amount specified. Fit and adjust hardware for ease of operation. Protect finished surfaces from damage during fabrication, erection, and after completion of the work. Strippable plastic coatings on colored anodized finish are not acceptable. STOREFRONT: Aluminum: Extruded ASTM. B221, Alloy 6063 temper T5, 0.080-inch thick. For color Anodized finish, use aluminum alloy as required to produce specified color. Provide Thermal Break: Manufacturer standard low conductive material retarding heat flow in the framework, where insulating glass is scheduled. Isolate aluminum from contact with dissimilar metals other than stainless steel, white bronze, or zinc. Color finish: Dark Bronze chemically etched medium matte, with integrally colored anodic coating, Class I Architectural,7 mils thick. Install work plumb and true, in alignment and in relation to lines and grades shown. Variation of 3 mm (1/8 -- inch) in eight feet, non-accumulative, is maximum permissible for plumb, level, warp, bow and alignment. Insulating Glass Units: Provide factor fabricated, hermetically sealed glass unit consisting of two panes of glass separated by a dehydrated air space. G-36, SEU clear Tempered Glass Exterior and interior pane G-4, Clear Tempered Glass ASTM C1048, Kind FT, Condition A, Type I, Class 1, Quality q3. Thickness, 1/4-inch. The VA will provide the following: 1. Power to the automatic door, 2. A level floor area to set the door, 3. Necessary finish carpentry at the exterior wood soffit and interior ceiling.
