The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism intends to negotiate on a sole-source basis with the Center for Human Behavior Studies, Incorporated for a research and development project entitled, "Mapping Alcoholism Related Genes by Linkage Disequilibrium in Choctaw American Indians with Mixed Ancestry." The statutory authority to negotiate with the Center for Human Behavior Studies, Incorporated is 41 U.S.C. 253 (c)(1). The purpose of the proposed contract is to study the linkage genetics of alcoholism and comorbid psychiatric conditions using the Transmission Disequilibrium Test or Mapping with Admixture Linkage Disequilibrium methods. This will be done using two samples of members of an American Indian population with a purported low rate of alcoholism and alcohol abuse. A blood sample will be obtained and a number of data collection instruments will be administered to the participants. The contractor must demonstrate an understanding of the implications of working with an American Indian population in tribal and personal interactions, methods employed to locate specific individuals, gather data from American Indian tribes and an ability to conduct rigorous scientific data collections under field conditions.
