612-725-2189 Provide Board Certified Therapeutic Radiology Physicist
for the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Minneapolis, MN
on a part-time basis of five mornings per week, Monday through Friday,
8:00 a.m. to noon (or negotiated tour of duty). Scope of Work includes
qualified Physicist with a Ph.D. board certified in radiation physics;
provide compliance with protocol groups, i.e., CALGB; participate in
developing appropriate treatment protocols for patients; provide
clinical care to include manual and computerized treatment planning,
superficial and orthovoltage x-ray, cobalt and linac unit machine
calibration and external beam and implant dosimetry; participate in
design, installation and implantation of machines generally used in the
radiotherapy facility to include use of ion chamber techniques and
chemical methods in dosimetry measurements, dose calculations, photon
and electron calibrations, participation in national comparisons of
dosimetry and treatment planning between therapy centers including
interchange of standards and procedures, docimetry measurements in --
phantom for clinical applications and treatment planning, treatment
dose calculations and verification of treatment planning programs,
design of patient handling and treatment set up devices, construction
of individualized treatment blocks and external beam modifying devices;
assist the radiation therapist, residents in radiation therapy, and the
radiotherapy technicians as a member of radiotherapy team in the
treatment of patients including patient treatment localization
professional direction of technicians, dosimetry, and design of
specialized equipment and devices for treatment planning, according to
radiobiological and experimental studies; participate in developing,
implementing and monitoring a radiation safety surveillance program of
personnel and radiation environmental safety; maintain program and
records in accordance with approved standards; teach radiological
physics to students and residents on an as needed basis, approximately
one time per month; keep records of calibrations and measurements to
comply with Nuclear Regulatory Commission (MRC) regulations, state of
registration requirements, and any other federal, state or VA
regulations; full scope of work will be provided in the RFP 618-52-97.
