The Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division, China Lake, CA intends to procure, on an other than full and open competition basis, systems integration support for the F/A-18 Weapon System Support Activity at China Lake, CA. The contract is to investigate and document current system anomalies, design and integrate system upgrades to include System Configuration Set avionics and weapons, and develop verification and validation software associated with the upgrades for in-production aircraft. Negotiations will be conducted with McDonnell Douglas Aerospace (MDA), St. Louis, MO. MDA is the designer and developer of the aircraft and is the sole repository of specifications, drawings, special tools, and engineering and software expertise necessary to provide support for the F/A-18 aircraft and its systems. A level-of-effort, CPFF contract is contemplated for a three-year base period starting 1 Jan 98 (with options for up to 160,000 additional hours), and an option period of two years (with options for 100,000 additional hours).
