Health and Human Development of the National Institutes of Health is
interested in studying vaginal microflora longitudinally among 5000
reproductive-age women selceted from within a defined population and
examined at study entry and then every three months for one year, for
a total of five examinations per woman. The purpose of this study will
be to determine the starting prevalence, persistence and incidence of
BV, diagnosised by both Gram stain and clinical criteria, among a
population of low risk, initially non-pregnant women. Clinical sites
must be able to recruit at least 3000 women over a 42 month period from
a defined population. This RFP is a new acquisition. The release of the
RFP will be on or about June 2, 1997, and the proposals will be due 60
days after the issuance of the RFP, on or about August 4, 1997. Those
organizations desiring a copy of the above RFP may send a written

must cite the RFP number and include two self addressed Mailing Labels.
All sources who consider themselves qualified are encouraged to submit
