84 -- BALLISTIC PROTECTIVE MATERIALS DEVELOPMENT SOL W13G07-CBD7-0042 POC Janet Ward (508) 233-5462 (Site Code DAAK60) The U.S. Army Natick Research, Development and Engineering Center is conducting market research to identify material systems or body armor end items which provide protection at the National Institute of Justice Level IIIA, Level III and Level IV. This Center is particularly interested in new systems offering a reduction in weight over 1995 technologies at no or marginal cost increases. As an example, systems with areal densities of 1.2 pounds per square foot or less for Level IIIA are of interest. Also of interest are ballistic protective materials/systems for Level III and Level IV, particularly lightweight technologies. There is also a desire to explore/investigate nonceramic based technologies for Levels III and IV and technologies that are able to consistently defeat multiple hits (2-4) from NIJ Level IV threat. Interested firms are requested to submit information on their products within thirty (30) days following the publication of this synopsis. This should include as a minimum, an item description that details the material description including areal density, any ballistic certifications, cost estimates and any other specific information that the firm believes demonstrates the value of their technology/system(s). Information on performance against fragment simulating projectiles, perfromance against non-NIJ specified threats (e.g., 45 ACP/P, 7.62 x39mm, 5.56mm),, and environmental/durability assessments (e.g., water, POL, drop) would be useful. THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS. No solicitation document is available at this time but a future solicitation may occur. Information should be provided to U.S. Soldier Systems Command, ATTN: SSCNC-IB (J.Ward), Kansas Street, Natick, MA 01760-5019. POC for this request is J. Ward (508) 233-5462, FAX (508)233-4795, or email "jward@natick-emh2.army.mil". (0133)
